Lawn Care Tips

A great looking lawn doesn't have to be complicated. It just comes down to a few good habits done consistently. Whether you're doing it yourself or thinking about bringing in some help, these tips will point you in the right direction.
Mow at the right height. Sharp blades and the correct cutting height make a bigger difference than most people realise. For most grass types, somewhere between 2.5–7.5cm is the sweet spot. Try not to cut more than a third of the blade at once, as this stresses the grass.
Water less, but deeper. Rather than a light sprinkle every day, aim for one or two longer watering sessions a week (around 15–20 minutes). This encourages roots to grow deeper, making your lawn more resilient. Early morning is the best time. Less evaporation, and it helps prevent disease.
Feed it, but don't overdo it. A slow-release fertiliser applied every 4–8 weeks (depending on your grass and local climate) keeps things ticking along nicely. More fertiliser isn't better. Too much can actually burn the lawn.
Give it some breathing room. If your soil gets compacted (common in high traffic areas), aerating every year or two makes a noticeable difference. It helps water, air, and nutrients actually reach the roots where they're needed.
Stay on top of weeds early. A pre-emergent herbicide in early spring goes a long way toward preventing weeds before they take hold. Spot-treat anything that sneaks through as you go.
Keep thatch in check. A thin layer of thatch is normal, but if it builds up too much it starts blocking water and nutrients. A quick dethatch or power rake when needed keeps things flowing properly.
